The Winner of This Year’s Masters of Mixology Revealed

Each year, Downtown Doral puts on a mixology competition like no other. Ten restaurants put forth their best signature cocktail and competed for the tastebuds and votes of residents throughout Doral and South Florida. Over the course of six weeks, restaurants served up their cocktail creations and earned each and every vote they secured.

And after those six weeks…we have a winner! In this year’s Masters of Mixology Competition at Downtown Doral, Sports Grill’s unique and creative concoction with Bacardi Rum at its base soared over the competition. The award-winning cocktail consists of a unique blend of rum, kiwi puree, simple syrup, creme of coconut, and much more.

The winner was announced at this year’s reveal, which was held at The Backyard at The Doral Yard. Each competitor had their drink on display, while a second duplicate drink was taken into a private room where the winning cocktail was poured into an unmarked shaker. Then came the reveal. The contents of the unmarked shaker were poured into the nearly 3-foot-tall trophy in the shape of a margarita glass—revealing Sports Grill’s specialty cocktail, The New Kid On The Block, as the winner.

Although The New Kid on The Block was the clear winner, it is worth noting that it was followed by a close second—The Cafecito Martini from the Doral Yard. In total, nearly 5,000 votes were cast during the competition—setting a new record for votes cast in the history of the competition.
