Dolphins Dive Triumphant: Downtown Doral Charter Captures Regional Soccer Title, Heads to State Semis!

Dorals’ cheers echoed through Tropical Park Stadium in Miami on Wednesday night as the Downtown Doral Charter Upper School (DDCUS) Dolphins secured a decisive 6-3 victory over Divine Savior Academy in the Region 4-3A finals. The bleachers, teeming with a sea of excited Dolphin fans, erupted in celebration as the final whistle blew, marking a historic moment for the young school.

It was a fast-paced and energetic game, with DDCUS setting the tone early. Within the first 25 minutes, senior forward Luis Rueda and sophomore Eduardo Jerez took control, firing off a remarkable four goals combined. Their offensive prowess left Divine Savior scrambling, and the Dolphins maintained their momentum throughout the match, adding two more goals before the final buzzer. Despite a late surge from Divine Savior, DDCUS held strong, solidifying their regional championship title.

“This win means the world to us,” shared Head Coach Jonathan Rosas, beaming with pride. “For a team in just its fifth year, this is an incredible accomplishment. These players have poured their hearts and souls into the game, and their dedication shines through on the field.”

Echoing Coach Rosas’ enthusiasm, Assistant Coach Rodrigo Iglesias emphasized the team’s camaraderie and fighting spirit. “We have a special group here, a true family both on and off the field. They support each other, they push each other, and they never give up. That resilience was on full display tonight, and it’s what propelled us to victory.”

The victory isn’t just a win for the team, it’s a win for the entire DDCUS community. Established in 2018, the school graduated its first senior class just last year, and this regional championship marks a significant milestone in its young history.

The Dolphins’ journey isn’t over yet. Next Wednesday, February 21st, they pack their bags and head north to Auburndale, Florida, for the state semifinals.
